Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Fri, January 7, 2005 - 2:10 AMI'm not sure about more "authentic" chinese food but good standard fare may be found at the Great Wall. Its on Elmwood near Delavan.

Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Fri, January 7, 2005 - 7:33 AMMy two favorite Chinese places are Taste Good at the corner of Delaware and Hertel (in the plaza near the Key Bank, across from M&T Bank) and May Jen, which is next to the University Plaza across Kenmore Avenue from the Walgreens.
I don't like Yings at all, and the Chinese restaurant next to the Tops Supermarket on Elmwood Ave in N. Buffalo (near the Regal Cinema), assuming it's still there, is also one that I will not venture into. -

Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Fri, January 7, 2005 - 10:59 PMCan't recall the name off the top of my head, but the place on Elmwood near Bryant is pretty good... nearly across the street from Blue Mountain Coffee.
Next to that, I have to go to Toronto, where the Chinese most reminds me of back in San Francisco. -

Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Sat, January 8, 2005 - 2:37 PMhaven't done so in a long time, but i used to head up to a place in Ft., Erie, immediately across the Peace Bridge, called Happy Jack's. i think it's hard to compare to the chinese food in SF (and in NYC or Toronto, for that matter), but i've had some great meals at this place. -

Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Sun, January 9, 2005 - 12:07 AMis Happy Jacks still there? I rememeber going there as a kid back in the 60s 70s. I remember the sweat and sour chicken was great, since that was all I would eat at the time I cant speak for the rest of the food, though the rest of the family must of liked it as we kept going back. -

Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Thu, January 13, 2005 - 10:02 PMHey MeShell,
I grew up in Buffalo and lived near SF for 10 years.
I second the May Jens suggestion. Good food! Ate there in 2003 when visiting a friend and it was still thriving...
Best, Genghis

Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Mon, March 7, 2005 - 5:53 PMHave you tried Ming Tei (sp?), Ft Erie? It is within minutes of Downtown Bflo. I have had some good Chinese there.
In general: if you don't mind the 1.5 hour drive, there are tons of good places in Toronto. When I get sick of the local fare, I head north. -

Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Mon, March 7, 2005 - 8:18 PMSo there are at least three of us with Buffalo/San Francisco connections. What's with us? Are we all freaks, or what? -

Re: my left arm for some good chinese
Mon, March 20, 2006 - 1:24 PMHands down, 100% best Chinese would have to be The Red Pepper. They're on Maple next to the book store, near Niagara Falls Blvd. No buffet here. It's some of the best food I've ever had. And they also have an excellent wine list! :-)
I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
