Anyone have any recommendations for restaurants in the Queen City? I have fond memories of some good dining experiences (notably Hutch's, Santasiero's, and, recently, The Dove), and i'd love to check out something new when visiting for the holidays
When i ask my family this question, they tend to recommend a pizza & wing joint or one of the many chain restaurants (Backhouse, Outhouse, Red Ruby Friday's, whatever), but i'm hoping to find something local, something with character, something... else.
Thanks!

Re: Non-Fast Food, Local Dining Recommendations
Tue, December 14, 2004 - 9:59 AMCheck out the online edition of the Buffalo News. They've got all kinds of interesting recommendations for dining in the area.
One place that people rave about is Fat Bob's Smokehouse.... www.fatbobs.com
And, of course, buffalo.com has all of their entries:

Thu, January 6, 2005 - 7:27 PMIf you like italian food, get yourself over to "The Italian Village" on the corner of West Delavan and Grant! The owner, Tony ROCKS THA HOUSE with his sauce. I go everytime I'm home for a visit and can't leave until I get some of that good damn pasta! -

Re: Non-Fast Food, Local Dining Recommendations
Wed, December 21, 2005 - 8:00 AMI grew up on the west side and our family was close to the Balconi's...they used to own The Italian Village....there are new owners now? Frank's Sunny Italy on Del and Tacoma is amazing, too. And Cafe Garangelos and Romeo and Juliet's on Hertel...bother wonderful. I can't imagine how the Olive Garden can survive with the authentic places we have in this area. -

Re: Non-Fast Food, Local Dining Recommendations
Wed, December 21, 2005 - 3:29 PMI was addicted to Cafe Garangelos. The Garganzola bread is amazing, I love their meat sauce and the chicken Florentine sandwich is really good too.
Every time I come back home I have a list of my favorite places to eat, and I almost always make it to ALL of them.
(I must drive my friends and family nuts... lol)
1. Andersons - Roast Beef & Seasoned Fries w/ Cheese
2. Johns Subs - Chicken Finger Sub w/ Hot Sauce & Blue Cheese, and also a Pizza Sub on the next visit.
3. Duff's - The Best Wings
4. Cafe Garangelos - Baby Shells w/ Meat Sauce & A Huge Stuffed Artachoke, and dont forget the Garganzola Bread!
5. Teds - Hot Dogs
6. Desert Deli - Has the best Cut-Out Cookies & So many great deserts to choose from.
The list goes on... but these are my favorites

Re: Non-Fast Food, Local Dining Recommendations
Wed, December 21, 2005 - 5:46 AMUnfortunately, Roselands has recently closed. But 1/2 a block away is The Left Bank, excellent.
If you like French food, Rue Franklin and a great tapas restaurant, Toro.
I also really like Off the Wall for a different atmosphere and ever changing decor.
My list could go on and on........... -

Re: Non-Fast Food, Local Dining Recommendations
Wed, December 21, 2005 - 7:02 AMAnother place I loved to go eat, was Coles on Delaware. Kind of a family tradition, my grandparents would go there on dates, my Mom when she was young. A good bar, but they have an excellent menu.

Wed, December 28, 2005 - 2:41 PMhey all, i just joined, didnt know buffalo even had a tribe until i noticed it searching for something else.
"Jasmines (Thai-Niagara Falls Blvd)"
I second, third and forth that recommendation. Jasmines is just amazing, the prices are pretty cheap too.
My other favs:
falafel bar on elmwood (israeli/middle eastern)
for indian its a toss up, its not like there is bad indian food. Kabab and Curry is sopposed to be an awesome southern indian place but i never quite get out there -

Re: Non-Fast Food, Local Dining Recommendations
Thu, December 29, 2005 - 8:04 PMI tried falafel bar once and I didn't like it. I grew up on lebanese food and expected it to taste like that but Isralis use different spices and I didn't like it too well...but Sahara Grille is great. It's pretty much the only Arabic place around the Elmwood area that I know of. We need to start separate threds :) Italian Food, Indian Food, Arabic Food, Sushi,............ -
