Hula Hooping is a great and fun way to stay in shape! Hooping has inspired me, and I want to bring it to Buffalo. This activity is getting so popular in other cities, but so far I've pretty much been hula hooping alone.

Any hoopers out there? Do you want to learn? Let's get together! Deleware Park? I have a few extra hoops and I'm planning on making more for people to use. Or I can teach people how to make their own. Hooping is fun and healthy! Come spin your stress away! Don't be afraid if you think you can't hula hoop. These aren't the light, small little kid hoops. They're heavier and bigger, adult sized. I have kid hoops too! everyone is welcome

THANK YOU! *MUAH*

we've had a great response over these past few days with membership dues finally coming in, (hmmmm...could it be the BDSS tickets I am waving for only $10??? or maybe it is the free advertising or the 20% discount and free WNYBDA event admission?)

I know there are a lot of events going on in the community that tap at our wallets, but I am trying to offer the community as many great opportunities as possible when they become a member...

If you look at other belly dance organizations, some charge as much as $75 per year and all you get is a sticker and a quarterly magazine...
besides, there are worse addictions we could have other than costuming and BD events...
lol~ I always bring this up whenever Russell raises an eyebrow when I go to an event or get a new piece that I NEED (you know, business expense *ahem*)(it seems to work)(for now)

our fundraiser for the weekend brought in $450 in sales and memberships..thank you everyone for contributing and giving your time!
this money will go towards purchasing travel tickets & meal/taxi expenses for Neon & Tanna for the workshop & the free show! we're still a pinch short on this one, so hopefully we can get a sponsor or two before the show to cover all of the other expenses... we are still over $2200 in the hole with this event...and that doesn't count buying the costuming for the WNYBDA's troupe "Mystique" folkloric piece we are doing...

Our next fundraiser for the July show will be a SWAP N SHOP PARTY...
Sunday June 25th 7:00 pm-9pm

there will be a $5 charge at the door (WNYBDA members get in free) and as usual, I will have a feast for you....I will also have the reflexology and massaging mat set up...

we will hold it at the Wellness works center right after classes...(7:15 pm), where I hold my goddess hour of Power-Bellydancer's workout (5pm) & Bellydance Circle class (Folkloric & Dabkeh lead & follow) (6pm)

bring your used or new bellydance items you are bored of....I will have a trunk load myself as well as a TON of jewelry(everyday stuff, tribal AND cabaret..I have new scarves coming from NYC this week also!)

Please put a "monetary" value on each item to make trading fair for you and the buyer... (and also, If you have nothing to trade, I am sure the ladies will be happy to sell their items to you!)

and YES, you talked me into it... I will bring the Egyptian camel saddle....but it is still $50...not 50 cents(nice try though! lol~)

The Wellness center is at the intersection of Cayuga and Ellen drive...just b4 wehrle..a brown shingled bldg next to Charlie the Butcher..

if you take the 33 in from the city,(towards airport) get off on union- make a left onto union rd, make a right hand turn onto Ellen drive just b4 wehrle (you'll see gold's gym and a bridge ahead) our studio is all the way at the end of the street on the right hand side.. (with it's own parking lot)

here's the adddress so you can map it out on yahoo...
wellness works
372 Ellen drive
Cheek, ny 14225

I also have found a temporary printer for the t-shirts(while I wait for our order from the screen printer) with the artwork created by our beloved student and assistant Kathy Moriarity. I have 3 left in size XL...they are $15 each or $12 for WNYBDA members...I will try to get more made B4 Sundays show fundraiser...

2 volunteers/assistant organizers are still needed for the many upcoming events...if you donate 4 hrs per moth to the organization, you will get your yearly membership fee of $20 waived

Hi all,

My friends and I have been lookin for a good Mexican restaurant in the area and a new one just opened. This is a small place, similar to fast food but much better than mighty or bell. If you have ever gone south towards Mexico and eaten from a place run by Mexicans, you know when I say that US Mexican is a cheap substitute.

Baja Fish Taco is located just south of Main st, on Transit in Williamsville. Its a bit north of the Regal and a bit south of the Mall. It is on the west side of the road, or left side as you drive north.

It is a bit pricey, expect to pay around 15 - 20 bucks for two people, but very good food and super friendly owners!
When i ask my family this question, they tend to recommend a pizza & wing joint or one of the many chain restaurants (Backhouse, Outhouse, Red Ruby Friday's, whatever), but i'm hoping to find something local, something with character, something... else.

A lot of people that I've met can't believe I'm still here because I have a teaching degree and can go "anywhere" but honestly, there is nowhere else I would rather be. I want to travel the world but I will always come back here :) I go to grad school at Canisius college and love it!!! I have tons of amazing friends and the bellydancing in the city is great!! We have so much culture. I live in an area on the west side where I am surrounded by so many different people.....Italians, Arabs, Albanians, Somalians, Hispanics......it's amazing!!! The festivals are great, i have a great little one bedroom apt off Elmwood with tons of charm, my family is here, my dad's close by in Ellicottville.
ONe downside is the crazy budget the buffalo schools has messed up. I lost my teaching job this year but since I'm getting my degree in May in special ed, things will turn around. Buffalo is Awesome!!

I am moving to either buffalo or ithaca this fall... will be buying my own place there so this is somewhat a long term thing... every time I go to ithaca I get goosebumps and fall in love all over again! what an AMAZING PLACE but I really love the arts scene around elmwood in buffalo!!! have any of you travelled from ithaca (or buffalo) to toronto by car and found it to be an easy drive? I know it is about 5 or so hours from ithaca (maybe a bit more) and 2 from buffalo but Ill have to do it at least once a month if I live in ithaca... if I live in buffalo Ill be going to toronto once a week... the question is... if you had the choice and the chance would you rather live in buffalo or ithaca? AND if it is Buffalo I have some houses that I am going to look at which are mostly in the deleware district off of elmwood - one is on hodge ave and one is on (1456) deleware ave... others I have seen are to the west of elmwood and also directly NE of deleware park... anyone have any ideas on getting a house in a good place downtown near elmwood?

I apologize for the rush of this message... Im pretty much making up my mind within the next week or so and I have to be sure of it... things that matter to me are:

. a good community arts scene
. a great and diverse music scene
. good performance and gallery spaces
. location central to buffalo rochester syracuse and of course toronto
. PEACE of mind! hehe, and very liberal, open minded peoples
. open to electronic/experimental music
. ENERGY, CHI, PRANA
. art art and more art, i need a place that will inspire me to be at my most creative

etc etc etc...

I love snow and the lakes... I also LOVE the gorges around ithaca and the waterfalls... haha, I guess if i go to see niagara Ill get a good dose of water for a bit...

what is the distance from Ithaca to Buffalo if any of you know? (I have looked online at maps etc and travelled in the area but not straight from ithaca to buffalo ... the maps and driving directions online cant be too trusted on driving time - or the condition of the roads in winter etc...)

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated... :D

THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!

My partner and I are looking to relocate to New York but Im not sure where to live. I have friends in Washington Heights but thats kind of a hike. I hear good things about Brooklyn but Ive never been there. I was hoping for something hip with access to some good art. I was told DUMBO is too expensive. What about Williamsburgh? Thanks for anytime you can give.

Perhaps I exagerate a bit ( on the resturants) as far as fancy fine dining goes I have been to resturants as good in other places. The thing is the resturants I went to in Buffalo wer not fancy they were just regular old places.
Teds hot dogs, wings that are made right, Andersons lemon ice, shopping at Premier. If I could live in anchorage and eat and shop in Buffalo life would be perfect.
